In the deep blue waters of Lake Huron, astride the Straits of Mackinac, lies the crown jewel of the Great Lakes, Mackinac Island.
A profoundly special place of stunning natural beauty, visitors encounter a place where time has stood still: motor vehicles are banned and the primary means of transportation are foot, bicycle and horse-drawn carriage.
There aren’t many places more scenic than Mackinac Island in the fall. We will be visiting at the peak of their leaves turning and when the autumn air just begins to turn crisp. Our venue for this Escape, Mission Point Resort, anchors the south east corner of this magical isle.
Yet, even in this peaceful setting, Mackinac has its share of darkness. It is famous for its bloody history, old buildings and along with that, more than a few ghost stories.
